“Béo”, pronounced “bèw”, means “chubby, fatty” in Vietnamese. It’s an adjective often used not only to describe food, but also people (mostly in an endearing way). In Asian culture, giving someone food or eating someone’s food is seen as a form of affection. Members of your family will force feed you if they find you “too thin”, but they’ll also comment on your weight if you’ve gained some lately. It’s deeply part of the culture. That’s why I decided to create this fictional festival named “Béo”!
